Farriers, rescued horses and Southern Arizona Farm Animal Rescue Clearinghouse

The farrier came out today and he did a really good job on both of the boys. The girls didn’t need any trimming, which was good.

Moose’s feet look almost normal and he is walking sooooooo much better! He does have some abcesses which occured from some stone bruising that they guy said would have been from months ago (well prior to coming here, which was good news to us). He also explained a whole lot about blood circulation and horse hoofs and such. I learned tons today. He is our new official farrier. YAY!

Big John’s feet look a bunch better too! His had grown out so tall (he just came here 1 & 1/2 weeks ago) that he was suffering from lack of circulation in both of his hind feet. Poor guy! With some gentle walks that gradually get longer, he will be do much better in no time at all. Pat is tickled because that means he’ll be riding him within a couple of weeks.

I have spoken with a few farriers that have finally started calling me back. When I have spoken with them, I have talked to them about SAFARC and all of them think it is a needed service in our community (www.azfarmrescue.org). Which is very encouraging to me and also shows me that I am headed in the right direction.

There are a couple of ladies that I want to talk to who are involved in horse rescue, and I am hoping to be able to do that by the end of the week. This is all very exciting, even with so many difficulties occuring in our daily life.

Well, I am off to do a bit of work on the website and email a few friends.

Blessings,
Mama

Moose has Hoof Abscesses

Home Care
To promote the abscess to drain and resolve, warm water foot soaks and the use of drawing salves, such as ichthamol or poultice can be used. The foot can be soaked for 15-20 minutes once to twice daily in warm water, Epsom salts, and betadine solution. Soaking should continue until the lameness and the drainage resolve and the wound closes.

In between foot soaks, the foot with a sole wound should be kept bandaged or placed into a protective boot to protect the sole and to keep the wound from becoming further contaminated.

Pot Bellied Pig Rescue & The Horse Rescue & What I’m Doing Today

Well, Marc and I have had a busy morning already.  He took me out for breakfast because I have been very stressed out lately. It was nice to get away from everything for a bit. I enjoyed just being out of the house. Especially with being sick and with the adult children being on my last freakin nerve.

After that we decided to stop and see how JC and his family were liking operating the location of the Pot Bellied Pig Rescue that they now reside at.  They are doing a great job over there and they all seem to really be enjoying it.

Then, we went over to the horse rescue that is done by a friend of Marc’s. One of their oldest ones crossed to Rainbow Bridge last night so they were having a tough morning. Their place though is looking much better and J’s wife looks more healthy than I have seen her in a long time.

I am doing a bunch of work on our website since I am still not up to doing a whole lot. I am feeling better, but I am more at like 70% than close to 100%. Hopefully tomorrow will see me back to my ornery self.  Which is long overdue because I have been being kind of lenient with all of these adult children and I am tired of it.

I cannot wait to start riding their butts and making them carry their part of the stuff around here.  They will all get back into the habit of doing their chores or they will not be welcome here anymore.  It is not our job to support and raise everyone else’s children.  While we consider the 2 that aren’t ours, kind of ours, we are getting very tired of having to pull teeth to get them to do their part of stuff around here.  I know I am famous for my lists, but each adult child here will be getting a list and if it doesn’t get done each week, the will be asked to move out.  I am no longer willing to support everyone else kids just because they screwed up in their raising of them.

Oh boy, I am in a mood today.  I guess it is time for me to go start in on the one adult child that is here and I want to spend a bunch of time working on the website. I hope y’all have a great morning.  I’ll get back to you again this afternoon or evening.

Blessings,

Mama

Doing a bit of graphics again :)

Here is a picture I fancied up for a friend of mine. Chester is an awesome goatly dude!

I played with a picture that a friend of mine has on her website.  She is the leader of our Milkshare herd and a totally cool chicka!  You can check out the crew at www.Hoofsnhorns.com

animal control sucks

This has been a tough week.  We did manage to get most of the dogs rescued.  Only 2 were euthanized, but the battle starts all over.  There are ALWAYS more dogs than there are homes.  People need to be more responsible.

I’m tired & going to bed

Roswell..the new rescue guy

74845

Roswell is a mix of something and something else, LOL.  He has kennel cough, of course.  But he has a wonderful appetite and takes his medicine like a champ.  He is currently hanging out with Jack (the deaf one that doesn’t see too great).  They are buds and like sitting in the recliner together.

My camera battery is charging so I’ll try to get some pics tomorrow after we get back from SASI.

Blessings in Christ,

Mama
