Making Laundry Soap

Many of ya’ll know about my problem with chemicals and phosphates.  My solution when it comes to laundry soap and hand soap is to make my own.  They do have a few kinds that I can still use, but it is all so expensive and with 10 people doing their laundry here, it is too much to.   Many of people have asked me how I do it.  So, I decided to make a picture tutorial on how I make it.

Submission to My Dear Husband

I am listening to KGMS and these are my notes and thoughts.

Submission with loving leadership..
Boys need to be taught to lead their wives in love. Men need respect, women need love. Dad is the leader of the home. He ALWAYS deserves respect! The children see their mother respect their father as the head of the family. God designed marriage. Husband nor Wife can fulfill their roles if they are selfish! If you are selfish, you CANNOT have a God blessed marriage. It is MANS resposibility to be the leader.

Live Ephesians 5 through Philippians 2.

I lovingly following my husband..God is in control. My husband does not demand that I do it his way. I do things his way to show him respect. My husband has a higher priority to me than my children. First comes God, then my husband, then my children.

By submitting to my husband I am acknowledging my dependence on him. I am dependant and I enjoy that dependency.

There is something inside of women, a fear that if we are not in control of our lives that we freeze up. – Genesis 2 & 3 Eve was not willing to turn to Adam to trust him in the leadership. Adam should have spoken and told her ” do NOT”. Eve was placed in the Garden of Eden to be Adams Help! I am here to be my husband help! He is here to be my leader.

Meal List Monday…A One Year Solution

I did it! I have come up to the solution for my meal list situation.

I have a reoccuring meal list that runs for 3 weeks. So it is not the same meals every week or two. The family doesn’t complain about it and that makes me happy. So, I made up a calendar in Works and it is for a whole year. So, now I have a years worth of meals planned.

I did go through and change the days when there are special things going on. Birthdays, that person gets their choice, and other holidays were included too.

Now, I know what we’re eating a year from now, LoL.

How do I Keep Food From Spoiling?

A friend of mine asked me, “How do you keep food from spoiling?  Everytime I have ever bought in bulk it’s gone bad before I could use it up.  “
I’m not sure what kinds of food you are talking about…here’s what I can think of before I head off to bed…

Flour & dried pasta…I freeze it for 3 days (to kill any flour bug eggs) and then I put it in 5 gallon buckets.

Rice…5 gallon buckets

Meats and left-overs from meals I’ve made…I am canning more and more of our leftovers.  It’s really easy to do as long as you keep your canning stuff handy.  I also put them in containers and freeze them for quick meals for the kids or adults.

beans…I can them which also cooks them at the same time.  I do various size jars so that they are made for  group meals or single person meals.

Crisco, lard, oils…I keep them in a cool dark place and so far they have kept without problem

cereals…I do the same as the flour…freeze for 3 days then put in a 5 gallon bucket.

Eggs…ours mostly come fresh from the chickens and ducks, so as long as they are not washed (you can wipe, just no moisture) they will stay good in the fridge for months. *(just use the float test before using them if you think they might have been there for too long)  If you are concerned about it, eggs can be frozen.  Just open the shell and dump the egg into an ice tray.  Once they are all frozen, put them in a jar in the freezer.

Fruits…I dice and freeze them when they are on sale.

sugar…I do the same as with the flour

Milk…I do not like powdered and we go through our milk for baking pretty quickly.  It comes fresh from a friend of mine @ 1 gallon per week.  Once our cow & or goat gets old enough they will be bred and then we will have our own milk.  I will however, can left over milk at that time.  I also have some rennet and I make cheese as well as making butter.

My 5 gallon buckets are all food grade (I got them from a fast food place in town) and I keep them stacked up in the laundry area.

I think that covers the basics.  Mostly, I can what I am able.  I have slowly bought jars over the last couple of years and I am getting better at it with practice.  I can cook up 20 pounds of ground beef as taco meat and then can it.  It makes a whole bunch of quart size jars and some single serving size.  The kids will pop a small can open and eat it with tortillas when I make them, or on bread.  I do that with soup and stews also.

Okay, my brain is fried.  I am headed off to bed.
Blessings,
Mama

A Beautiful Day…Counting Our Blessings

I was going to title this post ‘another day’ but really every day is another day, and it is up to us if we want to make it a beautiful day or not. I am choosing to make today beautiful despite all of the hardships I am facing.

But we are very blessed in all the things that are not involved in the hardships. That is what I am going to choose to focus on today. Even the hardships are a blessing as they bring us closer to Christ.

I am physically able to wash and hang the laundry. The washer is running and as soon as it warms a little bit more I am headed out to hang the first load of the day. We can afford laundry soap and fabric softener. The kitchen is not in shambles and it will only take me about 15 minutes to get it up to par. The livingroom just needs swept. After that I am going to head out and feed the farm animals. These are all blessings!

We are blessed that we have 5 bales of hay to feed the animals. We have a cow who will someday provide us with milk. We have a goat who will also do the same. Their offspring will help to provide is with meat to eat. We have a pair of sheep who will also help to feed us. We have our handful of chickens and ducks. We are very blessed.

Beyond those types of blessings, we have eachother. I have a wonderful husband who loves Christ and our family. We have wonderful children who are such blessings, each in their own way. My husband works hard to provide for us and for that I am grateful.

My life is filled with blessings. Which also include my friends. I do not have a lot of time for social hours. I have a few close friends who live locally and then I have my ‘web’ friends. Each and every one of you are counted as one of my blessings also. I receive so much from these friendships. I love you gals! and guys!

Blessings in Christ,
Mama
