It is amazing how much it being summer takes out of me. I get stuff done at all weird hours of the day & night. I get the gotta go bug and lemme tell ya, one camping trip is NOT enough for me (I’m planning another one soon). We have air conditioners set up in 3 windows in the house (Marc said he didn’t care about the $350 electric bill, he was tired of being hot), which is making it so I’m not stuck in one room all of the time, but I am still not getting the stuff done that I want to.
The kids are going to be in brick & mortar schools this year, except for our graduated child, who is fighting us about wanting to take a semester off. I am considering registering him anyways, we can always get most of our money back. I am also looking into taking a class. I’m not sure which one to take though, so we will see. Jessica & Andy are both excited to be attending ‘normal’ school. Jessica has made friends in church that go to the school, so she is happy about that. And I am happy that she will have positive influences in such a place filled with terrible peer pressure.
We have 7 children living here with us at the moment. One is Alex’s girlfriend and she technically lives down the road, but only goes home 3 or 4 times a week, so we count her too. 4 of them are away on a trip for her birthday until this evening. They are an alright group, but as with any group of people, there are issues to overcome and we shall see what happens as school starts and schedules change.
We have 2 goats at the moment (I am waiting to come up with a 3rd that is already in milk) as well as 2-3 horses. Destiny’s horse is at her moms while she is on the trip, but is expected back here anytime. I got a new horse, his name is Mustafa, but I call him The Moose. He is gaining weight and his hooves are getting better. He is so high withered, that I was concerned about getting a saddle that would fit his withers, but The Lord does provide. I mentioned to this gal Kate that I was looking for one, and she had one. She sold it to me for one heck of a good price and it fits The Moose perfectly! Our 3 baby chickens are all doing well. One of them is a rooster, and I believe he is going to be traded for a random hen with someone who wants a frizzle.
We have joined a cow share program and I am tickled to have good milk for the family. I have become friends with the wonderful lady who runs the program (as well as a really cool rescue too) and I am just tickled. I get to hang out sometimes and it is a big thrill for me to see the milk come out of the cow and know that I am bringing it home to my crew.
I haven’t been blogging much, but am trying to get back into the habit of posting each day. I am going to copy this into my blog since it is so thorough. For those of you interested my blog is at http://mamapitcher.wordpress.com/.
I have been working on a pretty major update to our website, and I am hoping to get the update published next week. www.pitcherhomestead.com
And of course, the photos. I’ve got a handful of new ones posted over at Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/pitcherhomestead/ and I will have new ones being added later this week.
